balance your nervous system: slow down

We have a choice to make as individuals and as a society. Do we keep up the same unrelenting pace season after season and year after year until we burn out? Do we ignore all the warning signs of imbalance and disconnection, paying attention only when the alarm gets too loud to ignore?

Or do we choose a different path?

Let's normalize doing one thing at a time. Multi-tasking isn't even effective. We aren't really doing multiple things at one time; we're just toggling our attention back and forth between two different things. Every time we switch our attention, we have to refocus, which drains our vital energy. Think about how quickly using multiple applications on your phone or computer drains the battery. Humans are the same. Instead of trying to do everything at once, pay attention on purpose to one thing at a time. Take breaks, especially from screens. Give your eyes a break by closing them or looking outside at nature for a few mindful breaths. Build in time to transition from one thing to the next. Pausing is sacred because in that pause, we have the opportunity to interrupt habitual reactions and choose our response with mindfulness and compassion.
